Homestead At Historic Hembree Spring Offered For Sale

May 18, 2009

390 Hembree Road, Roswell Ga. 30075 - Over three acres surrounding an historic spring make this one of Roswell's future landmark properties.

This unique and significant property has been just placed on the open market.  The structure was designed by the owners to create the type of home one would expect to find past down from generation to generation perfectly complementing it’s historic legacy.  Hembree Spring supplies fresh water to the City of Roswell and has drawn visitor and travelers to it’s location for years.  Below is an excerpt from an open letter to prospective buyers from the sellers whose vision became  390 Hembree Spring, Roswell, Ga. 30075;

“Welcome” describes what Hembree Spring has been about for decades.  Looking back, the spring has been many things to many people.  Considered a historically significant site by the Roswell Historical Society for its place to generations of Roswellians and others, the spring has gurgled forth its waters since long before the Cherokee Indian days, and it has never missed a beat.  A comprehensive inventory of all things “historic” in Roswell surely includes Hembree Spring for its contribution to generations of area residents.

The Hembree Spring site, under a canopy of huge hardwood trees, once serving as a Civil War encampment site, and then a popular gathering place for Hembree family members, their myriad of kinfolk as well as neighbors, and stranger for as far back as can be remembered.  The spring has served as a well known overnight spot for many weary travelers throughout the area traveling to and from Atlanta.  The remnants of rough cut granite cooking pits and a hand dug well were still in existence on the site.

Mrs. Marie (Hembree) Marin, a longtime residence of Canton St., a keynote area of Historic Roswell’s officially designated Historic District, remembers her great-uncle David Virgel, (Uncle Dave) Hembree, 1835-1920. His house and store were located across Crabapple Road from Hembree Spring.  “It had a shelter over it.  People not even related to the Hembree clan would come from miles around to picnic.  Uncle Dave ran his store across the road, because the spring had good water.  He had three or four gourd dippers hanging at the spring house….”

Having lived at the spring for nearly ten years now, we invite you to discover a feeling that has always existed here at Hembree Spring, “Welcome”.  We designed the home to reflect the character that we felt existed here for many years.  The “remodeled farm house” we intended to create was to capture the generational evolution of the site.  Specific intention was our goal in selecting the mixture of materials and period styling that adds up to our vision of a family home born from several generations of caretakers.

We have enjoyed the days of the seasons as they have passed.  We’ve looked forward to the honeysuckle blooming and filling the air with sweet perfume.  Picking bowls and bowls of the wild blackberries along the rear property boundary, and setting out gardens.  We’ve loved watching the deer and other wildlife find their way to and from the spring, as well as the geese honking on their way by.  We’ve enjoyed many of the good things in life that seem to flow forth just like this wonderful spring.

Although our time has come and gone, we invite you to surrender to the  simplicity of the spring, and look into the future to see how you will make a lasting impression on Hembree Spring, and continue the tradition  that have existed here for years……………                        “Welcome to Hembree Spring”.

The pictures don't do it justice. The pool area is so dramatic and the care and attention to every detail is evident the moment you walk in the door. It's pretty neat to think about all the history surrounding the spring that is right there in the front yard. Thanks for sharing.
